Lecture: Points in Intermedia Space
On June 15 Jaroslaw Kapuscinski, visiting lecturer in the Theory Department spoke at the Academy of Music in Cracow, Poland at the invitation of Professor Marek Choloniewski, Director of the Computer Music Studio there. The lecture titled "Points in Intermedia Space" focused on the research done by Dr. Kapuscinski in association with the production of his work for a speaking pianist and computer projection called "The Point Is...".
"The intermedia space created with sounds, words and images can be configured in countless ways. The meanings and expression of text, music and video are very different at the outset, yet if combined together and based on certain kinds of similarity it is possible to find points of intersection between them. Sometimes these correlations are obvious, sometimes surprising. As an intermedia artist my interest is to set aim at those points, to compose and play with them. Using performance work 'The Points Is...' I will show that even the most simple and abstract elements can be used to generate bursts of intermedia energy."
