Supervisor of Sports Sciences Student Teachers and Interns

Pursuing a career in physical education is rewarding and enlightening, because the field continues to evolve.

Those who take on this challenge will find it not only valuable, but also meaningful in their development  of effective teaching skills.

The field is especially exciting because of the shift from traditional physical education to the innovative  learning experiences in which our students now engage.

One of my goals is to link classroom teachers with physical education teachers.

My success is measured by the success of those students who become competent and proficient in teaching  movement concepts and skill themes.

The field of physical education is powerful because it reaches students who have different learning styles.

Movement is a universal language in which everyone can have dialogue.

The context in which physical education takes place is unparalleled and filled with opportunities for  students to experience learning in diverse ways . . . a wonderful testimony to the uniqueness of the field.

I encourage you to be inquisitive. To be a physical education teacher today is to specialize in using  developmentally and instructionally appropriate progressions and diverse teaching styles, technologies,  and assessment strategies.

In addition, teaching physical education requires a strong background in curriculum development and a  heavy emphasis on pedagogy, all of which are integral to being a quality teacher.
