Objectives

The Computer Science Department provides undergraduate education in computer science which features current and emerging technologies and experiential learning. The quality programs prepare students to contribute to the computing profession upon graduation, provide a basis for continued study, graduate study, and growth in their fields.

Learning Objectives

Theory and Persistent Concepts

  1. Students will have the ability to select and apply algorithms, data structures and appropriate languages.
  2. Students will understand computer fundamentals such as computing theory, programming language concepts, networking and computer organization and architecture as appropriate for the major.

Software Design and Analysis

  1. Students will have experience with the analysis, design and testing principles that apply to computer problem solving.
  2. Students will have a good understanding of design principles and methodologies.

Teamwork and Communication

  1. Students will have the ability to communicate concisely and professionally in writing and in oral presentations.
  2. Students will develop the ability to work on a software development team as both a leader and a participant.
  3. Students will develop the ability to document software and an understanding of the importance of documentation in software development and system integration.

Experiential and Independent Learning

  1. Students will demonstrate the ability to learn and apply current and emerging technologies.
  2. Students will have the confidence to learn new concepts on their own.
  3. Students will develop their ability to contribute to the profession by applying their knowledge on a project. This may be in an internship project, senior project or undergraduate research.

Social and Ethical Issues

  1. Students will be able to evaluate professional decisions based on an understanding of ethical issues.
  2. students will be ready to assume their social responsibility as technology professionals.
