M.A. in Educational Administration and Leadership (with Optional Preliminary Administrative Services Credential)

About the Degree

The M. A. in Educational Administration and Leadership is a 33-unit program. The program usually involves the 21 units required for the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential, plus a 12-unit M. A. core required of all M. A. students in the Benerd School of Education.

For students not pursuing the preliminary administrative services credential, an individual program may be developed. These programs are usually for individuals seeking careers in educational administration outside of K-12 education.

Admission Information

Admission to this program is a holistic decision, and is based on the following:


  1. Admission to the  Graduate School
  2. 3.0 GPA for upper division undergraduate and graduate work taken to date
  3. Three letters of reference
  4. A personal statement on professional goals and objectives

Course Requirements

In addition to the  Preliminary Administrative Services Credential requirements, the following courses are required for the M.A. in Educational Administration and Leadership:

  • EPSY 201, Techniques of Research, 3 units
  • EPSY 220, Nature and Condition of Learning, 3 units
  • CURR 209, Curriculum Theory, 3 units
  • EADM 204, Pluralism in American Education, 3 units

Culminating Experience

A final oral examination with a committee of three faculty members
