Conservatory of Music
Student Organizations
Opportunities include social, political and community involvement.
- Conservatory Student Senate. This organization is elected by students and works with the administration to address issues of concern. They also plan educational and social events.
- Professional Music Fraternities. There are several professional organizations that serve the field of music. Students can become active members of Phi Mu Alpha-Sinfonia, Sigma Alpha Iota, and Mu Phi Epsilon.
- Student Organizations in the Majors. Several majors provide additional learning opportunities including networking forums and concert production. The Music Management Club hosts music business professionals and presents the Annual Music Business Symposium. The Composers Club promotes, and presents concerts featuring student compositions. There is also the Music Therapy Cluband a student chapter of MENC (National Association for Music Education).
- Committees. Serving on faculty search committees, curriculum committees, and faculty evaluation committees give students an opportunity to shape the future of the Conservatory.
Employment
Part-time jobs in the Conservatory include accompanists, librarians, administrative assistants, and Pacific Music Camp counselors, librarians, and instructors. Students can also work for the Director of Development in event organization and fundraising, and as production assistants for the Brubeck Institute. Many students are employed as stagehands and ushers in the Faye Spanos Concert Hall which produces over 200 concerts, recitals, and other events each year. Concert production includes training in sound and lighting control, and event management.
