Speakers, workshops, seminars and demonstrations
– See the CTL Events Calendar for current and previous sessions.

Confidential Classroom Observations – At your request and timeframe, CTE will visit and collect data on your classroom teaching; prepare a summary memorandum; and debrief the findings to you in a non-evaluative, confidential meeting.  Subsequently, if you choose, CTE will assist in offering resources and guidance in an effort of continuous improvement which aligns with your teaching style and discipline-specific outcomes.

Review of course material, syllabi, Blackboard, assessment, etc. – At your request and convenience, CTE will review your teaching material based on best pedagogical practices and offer resources and guidance to enhance your teaching and learning.

Small Group Student Perception Evaluation can provide a formative type of feedback on students perception of your teaching and learning methodology at a time during the term when the faculty member can still modify an approach. To obtain this feedback, a qualified member of the Center visits a class during the last 20 minutes and, after you have left, divides your students into groups of five. Each group then comes to a consensus on the following questions:

  1. What they like about your class;
  2. What needs improvement; and
  3. Suggestions for changes.

The Center personnel provide the instructor with the responses anonymously, during a confidential consultation.

Open Resource Library for Teaching and Learning – CTL has an ever-growing library of resources specific useful resources to help guide you in improving your teaching and learning.  Please drop by our office to review and check them out. (online catalog of books and check out system coming soon)

Peer-to-Peer Pairing - CTL assists pre-tenured faculty members who are willing to work together as partners to improve their teaching and their understanding of student learning. Partners will observe, analyze, and critique each other’s teaching; they will be aided in documenting and reflecting on what they see and do.

Teaching Stories - Stories about teaching at Pacific are a valuable record of what transpires in our classrooms. With its long history, Pacific is rich in the collective experiences from which such stories emerge. To address this state of affairs, the Center will hold a competition each year to select the best essays reflecting on some aspect of their experiences teaching.
