CTL Faculty Fellows
A process is currently under development where faculty members can apply for a CTL Faculty Fellowship to assist the Center in accomplishing their mission. CTL will award Faculty Fellowships each year to faculty who will be responsible for at least three activities during the year:
- Conduct a seminar or Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project on a topic that contributes to the CTL mission in teaching and learning or research.
- Assist the CTL in soliciting information from their respective colleges to continue productive, useful dialog between the office and faculty members.
- Be available for office hours for two hours/week to share your expertise with other faculty members; or propose your own concept to facilitate transfer of your ideas to a wider audience of faculty members.
Fellows receive a stipend and assistance from CTL to meet with and assist faculty pursuing the particular workshop, training, or seminar topics.
Proposal Guidelines
To prepare a proposal for a Fellowship position, prepare a 1-2 page proposal that describes:
- Your current level of knowledge or expertise about a teaching and learning topic
- How you plan to develop the topic and disseminate the information to the larger faculty population
- How your project will advance faculty development.
Your topic should be of sufficient general interest to appeal to faculty from a range of disciplines. For example:
- Classroom Teaching and Learning Strategies
- Methods of Data Collection and Statistical Analysis
- Developing A Scholarly Research Program
- Methods of Assessment – classroom, self, peer, program
- Theories of Pedagogy – critical thinking, learning theories
- Outcomes-based Teaching and Learning in Virtual Worlds
- Writing Across The Discipline.
Near the end of the Fellowship, you are responsible for clearly articulating how you met the three requirements of a Fellow. A plan for measuring the outcomes is prepared prior to the beginning of the Fellowship to provide guidelines for collecting data to support your accomplishments.
Developing a Proposal
- Develop the specific topic, objectives and the intended audience.
- Write up descriptions that can be used to advertise and promote the activities.
- Develop a schedule of activities seminar? Dates? Location?
- Research and locate existing literature on these kinds of faculty enhancement projects. Are there models? Strategies? Suggestions for success?
- Develop resource base that provides faculty with supporting materials. Will these be distributed as hardcopy or placed on the web?
- Create a web site for your faculty project that can be used for announcements, placement of documents, discussion board, links, etc.
