New Pacific Trio

The New Pacific Trio, in residence  at the University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music, is quickly gaining recognition throughout the United States.  This talented ensemble is made up of celebrated concert violinist Igor Veligan, Grammy-nominated cellist Nina Flyer, and award-winning pianist Sonia Leong.

The trio coaches chamber music at the Conservatory, and its members are active in performing and teaching at various music festivals including Aspen and Rocky Ridge (Colorado), Utah Chamber Music Festival, Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival (Alaska), Norfolk Chamber Music Festival (Connecticut), San Miguel de Allende (Mexico), Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds (Italy), Okhust Music Festival (Japan), San Diego Chamber Music Workshop, Biennale Festival(Venice, Italy), Blossom Festival, Prince Albert Festival (Hawaii), Cabrillo Festival (Santa Cruz), Bear Lake Festival (Utah), and Bear Valley Festival (California).

Members of the New Pacific Trio have also collaborated with musicians from the San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Solisti Aquilani (Rome); concertmasters from NHK, Israel Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony, Dallas Symphony, and ensembles such as the Manhattan String Quartet, the Ives Quartet, the Reykjavik Quartet (Iceland), and the Yerba Buena Ensemble.

Critics have hailed the New Pacific Trio for its "passion and dexterity" and its "infectious musical vivacity", saying "the audience....roared its approval".

The New Pacific Trio was also awarded the Barlow Grant in the amount of $10,000 for a commissioned work by esteemed composer, Chen Yi - her first piano trio!
