Conservatory of Music

About the Conservatory

Through its nationally prominent programs in music, the Conservatory of Music has been recognized as one of the top music schools for more than 129 years.  It is large enough to offer quality educational and performance opportunities yet small enough that each student receives a high degree of personal attention.  The Conservatory is a major resource for the region with more than 120 musical performances each year featuring students,  faculty, guest artists, and alumni.

Our faculty teach, perform, and mentor students throughout their collegiate experience and into their professional careers.  They are dedicated and committed to providing high quality educational and performance experiences for students and the community.  We currently have 22 full-time faculty and 18 part-time faculty.

Our students are musically talented, intellectually gifted and inquisitive.  In addition to studies within their majors, students take courses throughout the University as part of their general education program.  The close relationship among all academic units of the University ensures a broad range of educational opportunities.

Our graduates perform with symphony orchestras, opera and musical theater companies, military bands, chamber ensembles, recording studios, and as faculty members at colleges, universities, and music conservatories throughout the world.  Many lead programs in public and private schools, music therapy clinical programs, and management positions throughout the music industry in areas such as recording, merchandising, marketing, and arts administration.  Alumni are also involved in mentoring current students and developing internships and employment opportunities.
