Bachelor of Science in Biology for Teaching Credential Candidates (BS)
General Requirements for Graduation:
- Declaration of major form on file
- Complete a minimum of 124 units
- Minimum grade point average of 2.0 or better
- A grade of D or better in all Biology courses taken for the major (see below)

A. General Education Requirements:
- Three Pacific Seminars (Pacific Seminar I, II, and III)
- Three courses under Category I – The Individual and Society (one in each subcategory)
- Three courses under Category II – Human Heritage (one in each subcategory)
- Three courses under Category III – The Natural World and Formal Systems of Thought (one in each subcategory)
B. Biology Major Requirements:
Required Courses:
- General Chemistry – CHEM 25 and 27 (2 semesters)
- Organic Chemistry – CHEM 121 and 123 (2 semesters)
- Physics – PHYS 23, 25 and 41 (Astronomy)
- Geosciences – GEOS 51 (Physical Geology) and 53 (Geologic Evolution of the Earth)
- Mathematics – Two courses above MATH 33 (AP credits may be accepted for MATH 51 and 53)
- General Biology – BIOL 51 and 61 (2 semesters)
- Genetics – BIOL 101
- Cell Biology – BIOL 153
- Ecology – BIOL 175
- Evolution – BIOL 179
One Course in Anatomy Selected from:
- Human Anatomy (BIOL 71), Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy (BIOL 162), or Embryology and Development (BIOL 165)
One Course in Physiology Selected from:
- Human Physiology (BIOL 81)
- Comparative Physiology (BIOL 234)
Two Courses in Organismal Biology; One Course in Plants and One Course in Animals Selected from:
- Plants: California Flora (BIOL 79) or Plant Kingdom (BIOL 130)
- Animals: Biology of Insects (BIOL 74), Marine Birds and Mammals (BIOL 77), Vertebrate Biology (BIOL 72), or Comparative Animal Behavior (BIOL 185)
