Conservatory of Music
Dean's letter
Our mission is to provide superior educational opportunities in music for our majors, to serve as a significant cultural resource for the University and broader community, and to support the artistic, creative, and scholarly pursuits of our faculty. This mission permeates all of our work.
The Conservatory is small enough to ensure that personal attention is focused on each student’s needs and aspirations, yet large enough to staff a full symphony orchestra, two wind bands, three choirs, opera and musical theatre productions, large and small jazz ensembles, and an active chamber music program. Up-to-date computer and keyboard labs, a new recording studio, and a substantial inventory of Steinway pianos support all Conservatory degree programs.
Our exceptionally qualified and professionally active faculty serve as a magnet for highly qualified students. Both the Conservatory and the University encourage entrepreneurship among faculty and students, and have established a learning environment in which innovation and tradition work side-by-side to prepare tomorrow’s leaders.
The experiences of Conservatory students are enriched by a diverse range of performances, distinguished visitors, festivals, symposia, and a number of cultural series in the greater Stockton area. The Conservatory is the home of the internationally-known Dave Brubeck Institute, which annually brings the finest jazz artists to our campus to work with Brubeck Fellows and provide master classes and other experiences for Conservatory students.
The Conservatory measures its success in large by the successes of its alumni, who enjoy leadership positions in their respective fields as performers; music educators; composers; music therapists; executives, managers and producers in the music industry; music historians; and a host of off-shoots of these fields.
Pacific is the place to be!
William Hipp, Dean
