Welcome to the Festival of Japanese Music and Culture at the University of the Pacific. We invite you to participate inthe rich program of events including:

  • concerts of traditional and new Japanese music,
  • an exhibition of Japanese art,
  • a Manga Competition,
  • a traditional Tea Ceremony,
  • a classic Japanese film,
  • a literary event,
  • and several other lectures.

During the Festival, the University of the Pacific will host several artists including Japanese composers Joji Yuasa and Kiyoshi Furukawa; Japanese shakuhachi master Yoshio Kurahashi with Yoko Hirano-Itatani, koto and Ayako Kurahashi, sangen; Japanese-American author Julie Otsuka; and Master of Tea Ceremony Aiko Mikami. The work of more than fifteen Japanese visual artists will be on display at the Reynolds Gallery.

The Festival is also proud to feature distinguished musicians from the faculty of the Conservatory of Music: Nina Flyer, Mat Krejci, Sonia Leong, Margaret Perry, Patricia Shands, Igor Veligan, and Frank Wiens.
