Council of University Social Entrepreneurs
Purpose: The Council brings together the breadth of Pacific’s education to consider and address the complexity of current global and domestic social issues. The Council moves beyond discussion to promote, educate, and create social entrepreneurship amongst the world’s future citizen leaders.
Council Activities Include:
Conferences
Sponsor Social Entrepreneurship Expeditions (on-site visits) to organizations in Northern California and to university centers. Fall 08 expeditions have included San Francisco Bay Area trips to Kiva, Otis-McAllister, College Summit, Better World Books, Transfair as well as local Stockton trips visiting social services, resource centers and non-profits.
Expeditions
Represent Pacific at national conferences and workshops for Social Entrepreneurship. Recent conferences and workshops attended include the Skoll World Forum, Making Cents Global Youth Enterprise Conference, United Students for Fair Trade conference, BYU Economic Self-Reliance Conference, Social Enterprise Alliance conference, as well as Santa Clara University invited speaker Muhammad Yunus and the Global Social Benefit Incubator.
Workshops
Workshops for council members aim to arm students with skills that will allow them to better serve the social entrepreneurial organizations they intern with and make them more competitive job applicants. Past workshops include:
- Non-profit Business Plans: Joe Johnson, Dan Wadhwani- Eberhardt School of Business
- Organizing a Fundraising Event: Steve Whyte- Pacific Special Events Coordinator
- Proposal Writing: Scott Soder, Pacific Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
Practitioner Speaker Series
The Council sponsors the Practitioner Speaker Series to acquaint the campus and community firsthand with recognized leaders in the field of Social Entrepreneurship. These specialists openly share their expertise and experience in organizing and operating a social entrepreneurship organization. Especially instructive are their lessons learned which provide a practical and realistic insight into the challenges and opportunities inherent in this emerging new field. Student internships often are result from these connections.

Research and Development
- Develop Internship Guide for students.
- Compile user friendly Non-Profit Handbook that provides step-by-step guide in establishing a 501 (c)(3) organization.
- Research case studies of Social Entrepreneurship organizations.
- Independent Study- Measuring Sustainability and Social Impact of Social Entrepreneurship Organizations.
Recruitment and Communication
- Maintain communication and develop advertising for campus Social Entrepreneurship events using Facebook, Blogs, and email.
- Recruit members from all schools on campus.
