Conservatory of Music

Mrs. Aiko Mikami was born in Hiroshima, Japan and came to the U.S. in 1958. She received the highest tea ceremony certificate, Midare, from the School of Omotesenke when she was 28 years old and probably the only person in the U.S. who holds such a distinctive certificate. Mrs. Mikami also is a koto player and has been teaching both koto and tea ceremony the last 50 years. She is a founder of the Domonkai in the Northern California chapter, which is the organization for the people who study the Omotesenke tea ceremony; it has over 250 members.
