Office of Research and Graduate Studies
Students with Assistantships
Students with teaching or research assistantships or other service appointments may carry a maximum of 9 units and a minimum of 6 units per semester to be considered in full time graduate study.
Advanced students with full-time service appointments may enroll for fewer than the minimum number of units, and still be considered full-time. Students holding service appointments less than full-time will have maximum and minimum unit loads set by their graduate committees and in accordance with the practice described above and approved by the Graduate Dean.
Exceptions to these maximum and minimum course loads for students with service appointments must be requested in writing by graduate advisors and approved by the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies prior to enrollment for the semester.
