My research interests lie in understanding a simple question: “how cells divide and what are the controls that ensure accurate cell division?”
This is a fundamentally important question as it is evident that when cell division goes awry it could lead to the unfortunate effect of tumor formation.
Intricate changes are associated with the cell division process and it is clear that these changes in the cellular structure and morphology need to properly executed and coordinated.
My major interest is in understanding the changes in cytoskeleton structure and organization, specifically that of microtubules, and how these changes are coordinated both in time and space during cell division.
My research uses yeast as a model organism and employs various experimental methods including genetics, molecular biology, microscopy and biochemistry.
