Sexual Assault
Sexual assault, including acquaintance rape, is an act of aggression and power. Acquaintance rape accounts for the majority of rapes committed and includes situations in which a victim is physically or mentally unable to consent (often due to drinking too much). Sexual assault is specifically prohibited on campus and in the University community. Violators can be arrested, charged with a felony crime, and may face University discipline.
Reporting Sexual Assault
Reporting an incident of sexual assault is a difficult yet important decision. Making a report may help with recovery, provide support and services, and prevent the offender from assaulting someone else. It is important to contact the Department of Public Safety at 209-946-2537 or the 
Student Advocate at 209-403-0250.
If the assault occurs off campus, call 911 for local police assistance. The University's Public Safety Department can coordinate with other law enforcement agencies when needed. To report an incident that happened on campus (even if it was some time ago) call the Department of Public Safety at 209-946-2537 or the Student Advocate at 209-403-0250. Reporting to the police is not the same as pressing charges against an offender. Public Safety and the Student Advocate can provide students with sexual assault information and other community based resources along with information about victim's rights and services, reporting options, and the prosecution process.
Public Safety and the Student Advocate both encourage third-party reporting. In third-party reporting, a friend of the victim can contact Public Safety or the Student Advocate to discuss reporting options.
Support Services
The Student Advocate (209-403-0250) is a trained professional available 24 hours a day to discuss an incident of sexual assault in a private setting, to help a victim decide which reporting options are best, and to make referrals to the appropriate support services.
Assistance is also available in contacting appropriate offices regarding changes in academic and living situations, when appropriate. Faculty, staff, friends, and family are encouraged to contact the Student Advocate to report assaults, seek information and support, and express concerns.
Medical help is important after a sexual assault. Treatment is available at the St Joseph's Hospital at 1800 North California St., Stockton CA 209-943-2000.
Counseling is available by calling the Women’s Center Hotline at 209-465-2997.
Judicial Review
Victims of sexual assault and harassment may also seek judicial recourse through the University's Judicial Affairs Department and Tiger Lore.
