The student chapters of ASCE provide students studying civil engineering with activities to further their practical knowledge of the field through activities such as field trips, guest speakers, and annual conferences. Through these activities, future CE professionals are given the opportunity to experience the practical application of their studies and meet practicing professional engineers.

Mission

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the advancement of civil engineering by fostering the close association of students with the engineering profession and the Society; to acquaint students with topics of interest in civil engineering through the medium of competent speakers and of Chapter-sponsored trips; to foster the development of professional spirit, to promote the common interests among students and to encourage the expansion of facilities for civil engineering study.

General Information

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) was formed in 1852, making it the oldest engineering society in the United States. With a national membership of over 115,000 professional members and over 15,000 students, ASCE seeks to enhance the quality of living throughout the world by advancing professional knowledge and improving the civil engineering (CE) practice. These aspirations are best expressed in the Engineering Code of Ethics.

Fundamental Principles

Engineers uphold and advance the integrity, honor and dignity of the engineering profession by:

  1. using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare and the environment;
  2. being honest and impartial and serving with fidelity the public, their employers and clients;
  3. striving to increase the competence and prestige of the engineering profession; and
  4. supporting the professional and technical societies of their disciplines.
