Hands-on Learning
Pharmacy
The Pharmacy Systems and Experience course track provides students with simulated experience as well as early practice experience.
One Pharmacy Systems and Experience course is taken per semester. (See the curriculum profile.)
Pharmacy experience culminates in the senior year with six 6-unit rotations of fulltime study and practice, in various patient care settings. Students receive over 1500 hours of clinical experience.
Speech-Language Pathology
Pacific is a national leader in undergraduate clinical education and one of the few speech-language pathology programs in California to offer undergraduate clinical experience.
Starting in the junior year, students obtain their observation hours in the on-campus Pacific Speech, Hearing and Language Center and the nearby Stockton Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorder Center.
During the senior year, students participate in clinic in both diagnostic and therapy sessions to supplement their academic preparation.
Students typically receive 70 hours of clinical experience as a senior clinician.
In the graduate program, students work alongside a nationally-certified, state-licensed speech-language pathologist in our on-campus Pacific Speech, Hearing, and Language Center, nearby Northern California public school districts, and medical centers throughout the state.
Physical Therapy
Each of the six trimesters provides students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program with opportunities for exposure to patient care. Opportunities progress from observations in the first trimester, to working with well-elderly in the second. During third trimester, students participate in two full-time two week experiences.
In our on-campus clinical learning lab, students work with clients during the fourth and fifth trimesters. Finally, the program concludes in three full-time internships over 22 weeks at various settings throughout the country and internationally.
Pharmaceutics & Medicinal Chemistry
Students may acquire experience in an industrial setting through cooperative work projects or internships with biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies.
For students interested in an academic career in higher education, opportunities exist to gain experience in teaching and administering a variety of laboratory and lecture courses.
