President Emeritus's Comments
To the University of the Pacific Community,
After many months of research and participation by a cross-section of the Pacific community, I am pleased to see the results of our Identity Program. Our research involved a cross-section of alumni, current students, faculty, staff, the news media, high school counselors, potential employers and others.
Members of the University community know the special character of our school, a very personal place where we complement book learning with life learning. Pacific remains by design small enough to be an intimate learning community of teacher scholars and student scholars. Our challenge is to communicate this idea, who we are about and what we stand for, to those who may not yet know us.
One of the key ways we can accomplish this is by using a consistent message and image. This becomes our "brand," or how we are recognized. The Pacific name and seal represent the value that Pacific offers to students. No one else has what we have. One of the ways we can project and protect this brand is to use these messages and images appropriately and consistently.
I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this well-considered program. It is designed to support you in communicating what we are about. The success of the Identity Program is a foundation for concerted marketing efforts for the University, across programs and audiences. The Identity Program insures that our multi-audience market will receive consistent and compelling messages about a singular University of the Pacific.
