College of the Pacific

Sharmila King

I joined Pacific in Fall 2001 after receiving my B.A. (honors) in Economics at the University of York, U.K. and my Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. I am a macroeconomist specializing in monetary theory, international finance, and econometrics. I was born and educated in Great Britain and wrote my doctoral dissertation on the monetary policy transmission mechanism in the European Monetary Union.

My research and teaching interests are in monetary and macroeconomics and international finance. I have recently published in the Journal of International Tax and Public Finance. Also, I co-edit a book International Economics, Globalization, and Policy: A Reader with McGraw-Hill. My most recent research investigates whether increasing bank efficiency alters the effects of monetary policy effectiveness. I am currently working on how the change in the banking business model of "originate and hold" to "originate and sell" affects the bank lending channel of monetary policy.
