Retrospectively, the Stockton-San Joaquin region was a major filming destination and known in the 1960s as "Hollywood North." The multi-faceted festival will feature over forty events of general screenings, galas, forums, and receptions in various venues across the city of Stockton, including Bob Hope (Fox) Theatre, the Stockton Empire Theatre, The Haggin Museum, Pacific Theatre at Pacific, and Faye Spanos Concert Hall at Pacific.

SAN JOAQUIN CROSS-CULTURAL MEDIA: Founded in 2005 by Cambodian-American artist Sophoan Sorn, San Joaquin Cross-Cultural Media (SJCCM) presents the San Joaquin Film Festival and celebrates cultural appreciation and media through productions of documentary films, community festivals, cultural arts, and educational media programs. SJCCM is one of six pioneer organizations of the newly formed Stockton Arts Center Alliance of arts and civic leaders.Goals of the organization are: to strengthen the art of filmmaking in San Joaquin Valley; to nurture our cultural and artistic landscape; to serve as catalysts for creativity and imagination; to utilize the media for positive community growth; to create events to celebrate our local heritage and artists; to encourage future filmmakers in our community; to motivate the community leaders of tomorrow; and to bridge the cultural gaps.SJCCM actively collaborates with arts and cultural organizations, community leaders, and San Joaquin Valley's multicultural community. During the Inaugural Season (2005-2006) when it was formerly Stockton Crossing Cultural Bridges, SJCCM focused on the heritage and history of Cambodians and Filipinos linked through the Stockton Sister Cities program. SJCCM was launched to the community in cultural festivals during the Spring of 2006 with over 3000 people in attendance. The Northern San Joaquin Valley, comprised of the California counties of San Joaquin and Stanislaus, is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic region of over 1,000,000 people. The city of Stockton serves as the seat of San Joaquin County and the largest city of the region. In Stockton alone, there are over 75 different ethnic groups represented. This region is growing - economically, culturally, and artistically.
