Sept. 1

The Record had a feature story on the U.S. Women’s Volleyball Team and how it won the silver medal in the Beijing Olympics. Pacific graduate Jennifer Joines, a member of the team, was quoted in the story.

The Hawaii Tribune Herald has a story on the members of the championship Kamehameha-Hawaii girls volleyball team. The story said that team member Kelsey Tabar hopes to play for Pacific after she graduates from high school next year.

Sept. 2

The Record had a feature story on the Inter-American program, Pacific’s initiative to appeal to the growing Latino community in the United States.

The Record had an editorial praising the opening of the new University Center.

The Record had a brief about the Tiger’s basketball sweep against the University of Victoria this weekend.

The Record had a brief on the upcoming job-search skills seminar being hosted by John Carvana, director of Pacific’s Career Resources Center.

Sept. 3

The Central Valley Business Times had a story about Richard Flaherty being named the new dean of the Eberhardt School of Business.

The Conservatory's Keith Hatschek was interviewed by John Dankosky on "Where We Live" on WNPR in Hartford, CT for about 20 minutes concerning Dave Brubeck.

Sept. 4

The Record had a feature story on Pacific student George Brais, who wrote and is acting in the play "Euphorah - The Mist Sets Here.” It will be at the Empire Theater Friday.

The Bay Area Reporter had a story about the closure of a clinic at the Dugoni School of Dentistry that treated those with HIV and/or Aids. The clinic closed in June.

The San Mateo Times had a feature story on local artist Jude Pittman. Pittman took some graduate courses in education at Pacific, the story says.

Ping Magazine (an online magazine for computer security workers) had a story on Pacific employee Bill Jiminez and the challenges of balancing the need for openness from the faculty and security for the University.

The Sacramento Bee had a feature story on McGeorge graduate Robert Laurie. Laurie is a delegate at the Republican National Convention.

The Central Valley Business Times had an article about the record Freshman and transfer student enrollment at Pacific this semester.

The Modesto Bee had a column that said the high school football championships will be held at Pacific again this year. It previously had been announced that it would be at UC Davis.

Sept. 5

The Tracy Press had a feature story on Pacific student Nisla Fonseca, who was inducted into the Mexican-American Hall of Fame for her work in Tracy Schools.

The Record had a story on the hopes of the Women’s Volleyball Team to beat Pepperdine, Oregon State and Colorado State this weekend.

OurSportsCentral had a feature story on Pacific graduate and former Pacific assistant athletic trainer Kevin Anderson. He was named Arenafootball2 League’s Trainer of the Year.

Sept. 6

The Sports Business News ran the Bloomberg Press story about the costs of putting on a college football game and the negotiations that go on behind the scenes between colleges to reduce those costs. Ted Leland, vice president of Pacific’s advancement division, was quoted in the story.

The Record had a short story on the hopes of the members of the men’s water polo team and water polo coach James Graham to have a winning season this year.

Sept. 7

The Peyamner News Agency (Middle East) had a story people living in the United States with Iranian relatives living in exile in Iraq. They plan to protest moves by the Iraqi government to deport all the exiled Iranians back to Iran. The U.S. resident’s claim their relatives will be immediately imprisoned and/or killed if that happens. One of those U.S. residents quoted in the story was McGeorge student Hamid Yazdanpanah.

The Kauai Garden Island News had a profile on two residents running for City Council there. One of them is Pacific graduate KipuKai Les P. Kuali‘i.

The Norwich Bulletin (Connecticut) mentioned Dugoni graduate Mike Ben in a “Where are they Now?” type column. Ben is a dentist in Oklahoma, the column said.

The San Francisco Chronicle had a short round-up of some of the people spotted at this weekend’s Fashions With the Stars fund-raiser hosted by the Dugoni School of Dentistry.

The Record had a story that said the women’s volleyball team lost to Pepperdine on Saturday.

Sept. 8

The San Diego Tribune had a short profile on Pacific graduate Doug Urbick, current chairman of the University of the Pacific School of Engineering Dean’s Council. Urbick was recently named president of Hazard Construction Inc.

Emeritus Professor Gil Dellinger will appear on Jeffrey Callison's show "Insight" today from approx. 2:20-2:40 pm to discuss his retrospective exhibition currently on view in the Reynolds Gallery in the Jeannette Powell Art Center on the Stockton Campus. "Insight" can be found on the dial on 90.9 FM KXJZ Sacramento; 90.5 FM KKTO Tahoe City/Reno; 91.3 FM KUOP Stockton/Modesto; 88.1 FM KQNC Quincy.

The Daily Trojan had a story that said University of the Southern California men’s water polo team beat the tigers on Sunday.

The National Law Journal had a story about how many law schools are now offering in-depth comprehensive bar prep courses. McGeorge’s bar prep course was featured in the story.

The Chattanooga Times had a story about all the upcoming classical music concerts scheduled in the next month in the community. One of those concerts will be put on by Pacific faculty member Frank Wiens.

Sept. 9

The Record had a centerpiece feature story on Pacific student Niquel Garcia. The Benerd Student also is a champion roller skater who, for the second year in a row, will compete for the United States in the world roller skating championships.

The Seattle Times had a brief that said Sterling Carter, a 5-11 senior basketball guard for Franklin High School, has committed to play for the University of the Pacific.

Pravda (Moscow, Russia) ran a story about the “World Graduate School Tour” which is about schools traveling to various countries to recruit students. McGeorge School of Law was mentioned.

The San Francisco Chronicle had an obit on McGeorge graduate Steven Edward Littman. He was 60.

The Record had a brief that said former Pacific basketball guard Steffan Johnson has appeared on the University of Idaho basketball roster, released last week.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier had a story that said Pacific Athletic Director Lynn King will be inducted into the University of Northern Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Record had a brief that said Pacific’s Field Hockey Team won against Ohio State on Sunday.

Sept. 10

The Record had a story that said a recent survey indicates the job market will get stronger in Stockton at the end of this year. Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center director Jeff Michael was quoted.

The Record had a story that said Women’s Basketball Coach Lynn Roberts is hopeful that this is the year the women’s team makes it to the NCAA championships.

The Modesto Bee had a news-obit on Pacific graduate Buck Townsend, founder of the Townsend Opera Company in downtown Modesto.

Vida En El Valle had a profile on Benerd student and national rolling skating champion Niquel Garcia.

Voices News (Connecticut) had a brief about native Courtney Weaving who currently plays as a forward on Pacific’s field hockey team. The brief said she contributed to a couple goals recently.

The Renegade Rip (CSU Bakersfield’s Student Newspaper) had a feature story on Pacific Doctoral candidate Mitch Seal. Seal currently teaches health sciences at Bakersfield.

Sept. 11

The Modesto Bee had a full feature story on Pacific graduate Buck Townsend, founder of the Townsend Opera Company.

The Sacramento Bee had a short story on the upcoming production of "Arias, Overtures & Arabesques," a concert celebration presented by the Sacramento Opera. Pacific graduate Megan Redmond was featured in the story.

The Record had a story on the United Way campaign kick-off luncheon held Wednesday. Pacific professor Tamara Little was mentioned in the story for a song she wrote about a small boy who recently died of cancer.

The Record had a story about the upcoming and Book Fair Family Day in Stockton. It mentioned that the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet would play at the festival.

Sept. 12

The Record had a brief about Sunday’s lecture by children’s author Matthew Gollub at the Benerd School of Education. Gollub is a Pacific graduate.

The Record had a feature story on the life and (recent) death of Pacific graduate Buck Townsend, founder of the Townsend Opera Company in Modesto.

Sports Illustrated had a feature story on the career of USC Football Coach Pete Carroll. The story mentioned that Carroll is a Pacific graduate.

PharmaLive magazine had a story that said OneWorldHealth, a non-profit pharmaceutical firm in San Francisco, hired Pacific graduate Susan Moriconi as Vice President of Human Resources.

Sept. 13

The Tracy Press had a story that said the Tracy Unified School District hired McGeorge graduate Ryan Davis as their new assistant superintendent of human resources.

The Record had a brief about the “Meet the Author Day” being hosted by Benerd School of Education on Sunday.

The Sacramento Bee had a story that said a recent survey showed the Sacramento-area women saw their pay rise faster than their male counterparts in the past decade. McGeorge graduate Nancy Milton was quoted in the story.

Sept. 14

Quadratin, a news service in Mexico, had a feature story on Pacific graduate and current regent Jose Hernandez. The story talked about Jose’s upcoming trip on the Space Shuttle. His association with Pacific was mentioned in the story.

The Record had a feature story on music teacher Torrey Stadtner who currently teaches music to school children in Ghana. The story mentioned that he sits on the Conservatory’s board of directors and hopes to start a cross-cultural exchange program between Ghana and University of the Pacific.

The Monterey County Herald had a feature story on the release of Dave Brubeck’s newest CD, “50 Years of Dave Brubeck, Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival, 1957 - 2007.” The Story discussed Brubeck’s studies at University of the Pacific.

Sept. 15

The Record had a story that said the Tracy Unified School District hired McGeorge graduate Ryan Davis as their new assistant superintendent of human resources.

Business professor John Knight was interviewed on Channel 10 (ABC, Sacramento) on a story about a plan to build new homes in Lathrop in spite of the record amount of empty and foreclosed homes in San Joaquin County.

The Novato Advance had a story that said a memorial service was held for two Novato natives who died during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. One of those victims was McGeorge graduate John Keohane, who worked in a law office in the Twin Towers when he died.

Sept. 16

The Record had a feature story about care packages for college students. Michiko Maggie, a senior resident assistant at Pacific, was quoted in the story talking about the many boxes of home-made cookies that often come for students every week.

The Tri-Valley Herald had a story about the “nosedive” the stock market took Monday with the revelations that some of the biggest finance houses were in serious economic trouble. Jeff Michael, director of the Eberhardt Business Forecast Center, was quoted. The Lodi News Sentinel had a similar story that also quoted Michael.

MarketingArticleBank, a website for travel agencies, had a review on Pacific Professor Ken Albala’s latest book, “Human Cusine.”

The Record had a story about how many of the candidates running for Stockton’s City Council may be “slow growth advocates.” The story mentioned that one of the candidates is Pacific graduate. Michael Merriweather.

The Napa Valley Register had a story that said Pacific graduate Jessica Rennie announced her resignation Sunday as head coach of Wine Country Aquatics. She cited personal reasons for the resignation. Rennie was team captain of the swim team during her senior year at Pacific.

The Palestine Media Center, the official news organization of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, had an article that was co-written by McGeorge Professor Omar Dajani.

The Sonoma State Star had an article that said their track team came in first place in the Mills Invitational in Oakland this week. The story said Pacific came in second.

Periodico A.M., a news-radio station in Mexico, ran the story about Jose Hernandez’s upcoming NASA mission. His affiliation with Pacific was mentioned.

The Solano Times-Herald had a story about the efforts by the California Maritime Academy to encourage more high school students to go to college. In the story, Norris Cooper Jr., the director of Cal Maritime's recently established Center for Community Engagement, was quoted. The story mentioned that Cooper worked with University of the Pacific in 2005 to create the create the Black Male Symposium. It said that Symposium won a NASPA Award.

Sept. 17

The Record had a brief that said Franklin High School is hosting a college night. Pacific is one of the featured universities at the event.

Digital50, an online news service, ran a story that said McGeorge graduate Matthew Dodson has joined the California Grocers Association government relations department as Director, Local Government Relations.

The Record had a short feature story on former Pacific basketball player Steffan Johnson. The story said he now plays for Idaho State.

The Wall Street Journal had a review of Dave Brubeck’s newest album “Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival: 1958 - 2007.” The review mentions Brubeck’s association with Pacific and also mentions the Brubeck Institute on Pacific’s Stockton campus.

The Modesto Bee had a sports story about the Escalon High volleyball game against Ripon Christian this week. The story mentioned that Escalon student Andrea Terpstra will attend Pacific next year.

The Ghana Review (Africa) had a story that said Pacific graduate and local music teacher Torrey Stadtner recently brought musical instruments to that country and started a music program for students. The story said she was helped by Ghana native and Pacific graduate Opoku Acheampong.

The San Jose Mercury News had a story about the sentencing of a man who was convicted of stabbing a San Jose Resident to death several years ago in a robbery. Pacific student April Luman was identified as the daughter of the victim. She was quoted in the story. Her association with Pacific was mentioned in the story as well.

The Contra Costa Times had a brief that said Allison Colberg, a sophomore at University of the Pacific, was initiated as a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Academic Honor Society for freshman, in spring 2008.

Progressive Grocer Magazine had a short story that said McGeorge graduate Matthew Dodson joined the California Grocers Association government relations department as director of local government relations.

The New York Star Gazette had a feature story on current Brubeck Institute Fellow Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, who played at a jazz festival there recently. The story had a brief description of the Brubeck Institute on Pacific’s Stockton Campus.

Sept. 20

The Record had a story about how the unemployment rate fell slightly in San Joaquin County during the past month. Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center Director Jeff Michael was quoted in the story. The Sacramento Bee had a similar story that also quoted Michael, except it focused on how unemployment went up in the Sacramento Area.

The Record had a feature story about Sandy Mayfield, Pacific’s official greeter in Burns Towner for 35 years. She retired this year.

The Sacramento Bee had a feature-obituary on McGeorge graduate Esther Mix, a retired U.S. magistrate judge who was the first woman to sit on the federal bench in Sacramento. She was 87.

The Record had a brief that said Alisha Valavanis has been promoted to associate head coach with the Pacific women's basketball team.

The Record had a story about how a group of Pacific’s engineering students toured the new county building in downtown Stockton to see how it is designed to withstand earthquakes.

Sept. 21

The Record had a story that said Pacific graduate and current regent Jose Hernandez, is working with the Mexican Government to help them form a space agency. The story mentioned Hernandez’s association with Pacific.

The Record had a story that named all the people being inducted into the Edison High School Hall of Fame. Among those names is Pacific graduate William Nelson.

Sept. 22

The Modesto Bee had a story about the impact that the Gallo Winery has had on the region. Jeff Michael, director of the Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center, was quoted in the story.

The North Bay Business Journal had a feature story about all some of the attorneys who work in the North Bay. The story mentioned McGeorge graduate John Friedemann. The Sonora Press Democrat ran the same story.

The Record had a brief that said University of the Pacific professor William Swagerty will give a presentation on Major Battles and Turning Points of the Civil War at the Stockton Library on Tuesday.

The Lodi News-Sentinel ran a question and answer format story with Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center Director Jeff Michael on what has been happening on Wall Street during the past week.

Sept. 23

The Central Valley Business Times had a story based on the recent Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center report that said California’s recession will last until the middle of next year. Forecast Center Director Jeff Michael was quoted. Michael also was interviewed on Capital Public Radio about the same story.

Forbes ran an article that said Codexis, Inc., announced the appointment of Lynn Marcus-Wyner, Ph.D., as Vice President, Intellectual Property. The story mentions that Marcus-Wyner has a law degree from McGeorge.

The Modesto Bee had a brief that said Morgan Spurlock will speak at Pacific on Oct. 18.

The Record had a story about the different programs that bring famous speakers to Stockton. It mentioned the Gerber Lecture Series and the upcoming speech by former Colombian President Cesar Gaviria. The story also mentioned the Morgan Spurlock will speak at Pacific in October.

The Record had a short story that said Washington Post blogger and book author Jacques Berlinerblau will speak at Pacific on Thursday about religion and politics.

Marketwatch had a brief that said Dugoni graduate and Carlsbad dentist Richard Allen won $175,000 on the show “Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader?”

Sept. 24

The Modesto Bee had a story about the recent forecast from the Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center. The forecast predicts California’s recession will last until the middle of next year. The Sacramento Bee ran a similar story but also quoted Center Director Jeff Michael. The Tri-Valley Herald also had a similar story, but rounded up the Eberhardt forecast with forecasts from other Universities issued recently.

Channel 10 (ABC, Sacramento) had a brief story about the latest economic forecast to be released by the Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center.

Sept. 25

The Modesto Bee had a story with advice from financial experts on how to survive the economic story that is affecting Wall Street this month. Eberhardt Professor John Knight was quoted in the story.

The Fairfield Ledger had a story that said Pacific graduate Barry D. Harper has been inducted into the Fairfield High School Wall of Fame. The Washington Evening Journal had a similar story.

The Record had a story that said Nevada Bob’s, a local golf supply shop, is going out of business. Former Conservatory Dean Carl Nosse was quoted in the story.

The Record had a story that said Pacific’s women’s volleyball team won its first victory this season. It defeated UC Davis.

KPIX (CBS, San Francisco) interviewed professor Bob Benedetti about the idea that the “Gay Marriage Ban,” aka Prop 8, could pass or fail depending on how the Central Valley votes. It will air at 6 p.m. today.

The Bradenton Herald Today (southwest Florida) ran the Modesto Bee story about the impact that the Gallo Company has had on Stanislaus County. Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center Director Jeff Michael was quoted in the story.

The Merced Sun Star ran the Modesto Bee story about advice for people trying to survive the “Market Meltdown.” Business professor John Knight was quoted in the story.

Sept. 26

The Record had a story about how the recent Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center report and the UCLA Anderson Forecast both had the exact same conclusion – that the recession is going to continue through the middle of next year. Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center Director Jeff Michael was quoted.

The Island Packet (South Carolina) ran the Modesto Bee story about the impact the Gallo Winery has had on Stanislaus County. Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center Director Jeff Michael was quoted in that story.

The Modesto Bee had a brief that said The Premiere Saxophone Quartet performs Oct. 4 as part of the Manteca Kindred Arts concert series. The story mentioned that band member David Henderson is a Pacific professor.

The Record had a feature story on the ceremony during tonight’s volleyball game to honor Pacific graduate and Beijing silver medalist Jennifer Joines.

Sept. 27

The Contra Cost Times ran a story about all the musicians who will play at this year’s San Francisco Jazz Festival. One of the stars is Pacific graduate Dave Brubeck. The story mentions his association with Pacific.

The Record had a feature story on Pacific art professor Trent Burkett, whose sculpture was chosen as a centerpiece of the new entrance to the Kaiser Modesto Medical Center in Modesto.

Channel 10 (ABC Sacrament) had a story about the “Clean Energy Expo” being held at Cal Expo over the weekend. It mentioned that Pacific engineering students showed off a device that can fully cook food using only the sun’s natural heat.

The Record had a feature story about retired religion professor Larry Meredith who spent his 80th birthday playing basketball in Pacific’s main gym with former colleagues of his.

The Wichita Eagle had a story that said Gary Miller, the provost and vice president for academic affairs and research at Wichita State University, is a finalist to become president of his alma mater, Mississippi State University. Miller is a former dean of the College of the Pacific, the story said.

The Fresno Bee had a story title “How to Stay Sane During the Economic Collapse.” Jeff Michael, director of the Eberhard Business Forecasting Center, was quoted in the story.

The Lincoln News Messenger (Sacramento Area) had a story that said McGeorge graduate Ronald “Scott” Owens is getting a lot of endorsements for his run for district attorney there.

The Willits News had a story that said Dugoni graduate Dr. Navneet Mansukhani has joined the staff at Little Lake Health Center.

The News and Observer (South Carolina) ran the Modesto Bee story about the economic impact Gallo has had on Stanislaus County. Jeff Michael, director of the Business Forecasting Center, was quoted in that story.

The Record had a story about the Jennifer Joines celebration. Joines, a silver medalist from the Beijing Olympics, is a Pacific graduate. Her jersey was retired Friday night to honor her achievements.

Sept. 28

The Record had a lengthy feature story about Stockton Resident Ismael Cortez, a warehouse worker who gave up a job as a college professor in Mexico to work in the United States so his children could have a better chance at life. The story mentioned the Hispanic American Professional Association, which is working with Pacific on several Spanish-language immersion programs to encourage more Latinos to pursue higher education.

The Sacramento Bee and Modesto Bee both ran a Dan Walter’s column that said California does not have a “rosy” outlook for the next year or so. The column quoted the Eberhardt Business Forecasting Center’s most recent report which says the state’s recession will last until the middle of next year.

The Berlin Morning Post (Germany) had a story that said local athlete Christian Kühne will study at Pacific during the next year.

The Galt Herald had a feature story on Janis Barsetti Gray and her husband Richard Gray. Janis Gray is a Pacific graduate. The couple make wine under the label Barsetti Vineyards.

Sept. 29

KPIX Channel 5 (CBS San Francisco) interviewed political science Professor Keith Smith about The Record’s endorsement of Obama over the weekend. The endorsement is the first time since 1936 that The Record has endorsed a Democrat. Smith discussed how much of an impact that might have on the voting public. It will air tonight.
