Welcome from the Department Chair
As Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of the Pacific, I would like to share our Department's commitment to cultivating the clinical and professional skills expected of Pacific Doctors of Physical Therapy. This is an exciting time in healthcare, particularly in the field of physical therapy. With nearly 90% of accredited physical therapist educational programs offering the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, it is critical that programs ensure their graduates are prepared for evidence based, autonomous practice in a direct access environment. Moreover, graduates must be able and willing to lead the changes in physical therapist practice necessary for transitioning into a doctoring profession.
Pacific's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is one that is accelerated without compromising the acquisition and mastery of clinical and professional skills. We are learning centered: educating students is our primary purpose. The accelerated nature of our program does not infringe upon extramural opportunities. Our students receive funding to attend state and national conferences, participate in numerous intramural sports and activities, and enjoy opportunities to participate in local and international service. Pacific students develop a solid scientific base upon which they develop and become proficient with clinical skills. They excel in their professionalism, and have a thorough knowledge of how to access, interpret, and apply current evidence to enhance their clinical reasoning.
Each of our eight doctorally trained full time faculty, two staff, and 17 part time faculty are passionate about your education and your future patients' care. This is the foundation for our commitment to teaching, research, and service.
The Pacific DPT - challenging you to become the PT your patients deserve.
