Engineering students win 1st place in Mechanical Scarecrow Contest
(December 3, 2008) -
University of the Pacific engineering students won 1st place in the 2008 Dell'Osso Family Farm Mechanical Scarecrow Contest held in Lathrop, CA at the Corn Maze this October. The School of Engineering and Computer Science students, led by faculty advisor, Professor Chi-Wook Lee, were Van Huynh, Clement Nguyen, Alex Perez and Bradley Roan.
The goal was to build a mechanical scarecrow that would last outside in the weather for over one month. The scarecrow was to have interactive moving parts, lights, sound or all three. The key was ingenuity and imagination. There were size limitations and power usage restrictions, as well. The 1st place award which was announced on Halloween, was a check for $2500 which will be put towards future SOECS senior projects.
