School Announces its 2009 Alumnus of the Year Award Recipient

It is with great pleasure the Pacific School of Engineering and Computer Science announces the selection of Mr. Doug Urbick, Class of 1981 as the School's 2009 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award recipient.
Mr. Urbick earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Pacific in 1981. He was recently named as President and Part Owner of Hazard Construction Company, a spin-off of one of California's oldest and largest general contracting firms based in San Diego, California. He is charged with providing oversight of all the company's operations and administration. Specializing in construction, construction management and site development for freeway, bridge and roadway projects as well as varied commercial, industrial and residential community projects, Hazard Construction Company celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year as a separate entity from R.E. Hazard Contracting Company, which was founded in 1926.
Prior to joining Hazard Construction Company, Mr. Urbick was employed for 19 years with A. Teichert & Son, Inc., a Sacramento-based construction firm that focuses on freeways, road reconstruction, site development and subdivision infrastructure. For seven years, he served as president of Teichert Construction, which achieved more than $700 million in annual gross revenues. In that role, he oversaw estimating, construction, and administration for eight regional offices, and supervised 3,000 employees.
Amidst his demanding career, Mr. Urbick remains an active alumnus of Pacific. He is Chairman of the Dean's Council for the School of Engineering and Computer Science which provides valuable insight to the Dean on the School's strategic direction, academic quality, and industrial relations. Dr. Ravi Jain, Dean of the Pacific School of Engineering and Computer Science, commented that Mr. Urbick "has served as a source of inspiration for the School and the University through his industrial leadership and commitment to the development of engineering talent in the School. We are most fortunate to have him as a dedicated and steadfast supporter of the School."
Mr. Urbick is also active in philanthropy beyond Pacific servings as Chairman of the LEED (Linking Education and Economic Development) Sacramento Board of Directors. He is a member of the AGC/Caltrans Liaison Committee, and a member of the Caltrans Statewide Partnering Steering Committee. Past industrial involvement includes having served as a member of the Board of Directors for the San Joaquin Partnership, co-chair of the Vision 2000 Strategic Planning Committee for the San Joaquin Business Council, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Building Industry Association of the Delta. His past community involvement includes having served as Chairman of the 2000 and 2001 "Walk for the Gold' fundraiser for the Special Olympics of San Joaquin County, a member of the Board of Directors for the United Way of San Joaquin, and President of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of San Joaquin County.
Born and raised in Stockton, Calif., Mr. Urbick recently moved to San Diego with his wife, Nancy, who is a custom homebuilder. They have two grown children -- Kevin and Nancy -- and three grandchildren. In his free time, he pursues golf and travel.
