Green Facilities
The recently constructed DeRosa University Center (DUC) is Pacific's first "green" building and is expected to receive a LEED silver certification. The facility incorporates a variety of sustainable design and operational support strategies in meeting the specific LEED requirements. The DUC houses the campus dining hall, event spaces, bookstore, conference rooms, and Student Life staff offices.
According to the U.S. Green Building Council, in the United States alone buildings account for 70% of electricity consumption, 39% of carbon dioxide emissions, 40% of raw materials use, 30% of waste, and 12% of potable water consumption. Green facilities address the Triple Bottom Line, which means it has environmental, economic, and social benefits. Past and present Pacificans are proud of the DUC and understand the positive impact that construction and operation of a building like this has on the environment.
In addition, to the construction of the DUC, Pacific's Physical Plant operation has been busy "greening" its facilities management practices and procedures. From the reduction of waste to energy conservation, Pacific has made steady progress on reducing the environmental impact of its new and renovated facilities.
