Pacific to hold Annual Career Fair for Pacific Students and Graduates

(March 9, 2009) -

The 2009 Career & Internship Faire  will be from 11 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 19 in the DeRosa University Center's River Room. The event is open only to Pacific students and graduates. (Media are invited to attend.) Organizers of Pacific's annual career fair expect nearly a 40 percent drop in the number of employers who participate  due to the national economic recession, they said.

To date, 61 employers have signed up for the event, which includes 13 employers for the education portion of the fair, compared to 100 employers total last year. This year's fair will include 48 companies, agencies, universities and branches of the U.S. military in the general fair and 13 employers in the education career fair.

The event will include Blue Shield of California, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the Internal Revenue Service, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Wells Fargo Bank. The education career fair will include San Joaquin County Office of Education, Oakland City Teacher Corps and Teach For America. The employers will offer full-time and part-time jobs, and internships, organizers said.

Pacific's Career Resource Center, which is sponsoring the event, has seen a 20 percent increase in traffic from Pacific graduates compared to last year. More Pacific graduates are expected to advantage of the career fair as they face a tough job market.
