Pacific Softball: Tigers Add Shaina Brock To The 2010 Pitching Staff
(June 26, 2009) -
Pacific softball head coach Brian Kolze announced today, June 25, the signing of Shaina Brock (Derby, Kan.) who will transfer to Pacific at the start of the 2009-2010 year. Brock will join the Tigers after transferring to the university from Baylor where she spent the last two years.
A member of the Bears' pitching staff, Brock helped Baylor to an appearance in the NCAA championships last season after the team finished the season tied for third in the Big 12. Advancing to the Super Regional round, Brock started and faced off against No. 6 Michigan in Ann Arbor in the second game of the best of three series. Despite the loss to the Wolverines, Brock finished the year with a 7-3 overall record in 17 appearances. Overall, the sophomore hurler struck out 45 batters in 49.2 innings pitched while also issuing just 15 walks.
As a freshman, Brock posted 41 strike outs in 72.2 innings pitched while posting a 4-6 record. Academically, Brock was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll in fall and spring semesters in her first year at Baylor. In her first year of eligibility, Brock was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Conference First Team as a sophomore last season.
Prior to Baylor, Brock graduated from Derby High School in Derby, Kan. in 2007. As a senior, Brock earned Class 6A, first-team all-state honors, her fourth selection in four seasons, while leading Derby to a regional title and an appearance in the state championship game.
"We really excited to have Shaina join our program," said Kolze. "She will add a lot of experience to our pitching staff. She is a student-athlete that we originally recruited out of high school and we are happy to have her coming into the program next season."
