Pacific Receives Two "Awards of Excellence" for DeRosa Center, Biology Building
(July 24, 2009) -
University of the Pacific received two “Awards of Excellence” from the city of Stockton for its recently built DeRosa University Center and Biological Sciences Center on the University’s Stockton campus.
Stockton’s City Planning Commission and the Cultural Heritage Board granted the awards for “significant contributions to urban beautification” in Stockton. The awards are granted to encourage improvement and beautification of the local community, create awareness toward building preservation and maintenance, and to promote imagination and sensitivity when designing new buildings.
Pacific has received the recognition on numerous occasions in the past, including in May 2006 after the renovation of the University Library, in May 2005 for the Baun Fitness Center and in June 2002 for Monagan Hall. Both the DeRosa University Center and Biological Sciences Center were completed in August of 2008.
The DeRosa University Center is Pacific’s first green building. The two-story, 55,000-square-foot traditional red brick building sits along the Calaveras River, bridging residential and academic spaces to the north with the rest of campus. The Biological Sciences Center, a state-of–the-art teaching and research facility, houses the Department of Biological Sciences. Biology is Pacific’s most popular undergraduate major.
