Student Loan Collections

Students may occasionally experience challenges with keeping their student loan payments current. When this occurs, the Collection Department is responsible for helping University of the Pacific loan recipients pay their loans.

Credit Reporting

A credit report is your personal credit payment history. Lenders utilize it to decide whether or not to grant credit. This history is compiled and reported by credit bureaus, also known as credit reporting agencies, from information received through various grantors of credit i.e., credit card issuers, mortgage holders, banks, or even retail stores that offer credit for purchases.

Your credit report shows how much you have borrowed through credit cards or any other types of loans including student loans, and whether or not you repay your debts in a timely manner.

The University of the Pacific reports the status of all its accounts to:

Atlanta, GA 30374-0241
(800) 685-1111

Most information reported to credit bureaus remains on your credit report for seven (7) years, and some bankruptcies are listed for ten (10) years. You may have no reason to think there is negative information in your credit report and you are probably correct, however it is a good idea to verify that as accurate. Credit agencies occasionally make mistakes, and if your report contains inaccurate information, the credit bureau can provide you with their procedure for disputing credit reporting information.

Note You should only handle disputes about erroneous credit information through the appropriate credit bureau. Be very cautious of companies or individuals that claim they can "fix" or "clear up" bad credit reports for a fee.

Payment Plans

If you have defaulted on your loan, or expect that you may default soon, Pacific offers a few special payment plans. For more information, please contact Student Loans Department.

Courtesy Notices for Defaulted Student Loans

The Collections Department sends out courtesy notices to borrowers with defaulted student loans to make them aware of the status of their loan and to help them take care of this issue as soon as possible. If you receive one of these notices, please do not ignore it. Call the Student Loans Department immediately at 209.946.2446.
