Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences host its 8th Annual White Coat Ceremony

The Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences held its 8th Annual White Coat Ceremony on August 28, 2009 as a formal welcome for the Class of 2012. The White Coat Ceremony symbolizes the honor of joining one of the most prestigious pharmacy institutions and health care professions. As the students are called upon the stage and cloaked with the white coat, it marks a new and significant journey in their lives as they transition from students to future pharmacists.

President Pamela Eibeck, who joined Pacific in July, was in attendance to support the welcome of our student pharmacists. She was cloaked by our ASUOP Pharmacy Senator, Kimmai Nguyen'11, as a symbol of welcome to our family of caring Pacificans. Approximately 800 people were in attendance, including many of the school's faculty, along with family members and friends. The students joined the thousands of alumni who have participated in this formal welcome and become part of the Pacific by receiving the lapel pin.

Dr. Nancy DeGuire, Assistant Dean for External Relations and Executive Director of the Pacific Pharmacy Alumni Association, offered special remarks on what it means to be part of a family.

"It is our hope that each time you look at this special pin with the Rx symbol, you will remember your family of alumni supporters, and how we are all connected by our experiences that this great school has afforded us", she said. "Being part of a family means you have people in your corner who want to help you succeed while you are a student as well as for the rest of your professional career."

At the ceremony's conclusion, Dr. Eric Boyce, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, led the students in the Pharmacy Pledge of Professionalism. While enjoying the reception, Tong Lee'12 reflects on her participation in the White Coat Ceremony.

"I think the ceremony was very significant because by reciting the Oath of the Professional, I made a promise and set a goal for myself to live up to these standards professionally and to accept nothing less of myself," said Tong. "It was very exciting and gratifying to attend the White Coat Ceremony," she added.

The Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences would like to thank Ralphs Grocery for their continued support of the White Coat Ceremony.
