Assistant Clinical Professor Clifford Young, RPh, CGP, attended the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) Legislative Conference in Washington, DC on September 22, 2009. The goal of the ASCP Legislative Conference is to educate and provide an opportunity for ASCP members to meet with their Senator or Representative on advancing the practice of senior care pharmacy.
Professor Young commented on how important it was to be present at this conference stating, "With health care reform being at the forefront of the political scene, it is extremely important for senior care pharmacist to be heard now." He added, "Specific language that the "pharmacist" be put into legislation to enhance our exposure will increase our opportunity to be recognized and finally get reimbursement for our services, most notably for cognitive services provided to patients."
During the conference, Professor Young (photographed on left) was able to meet South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson and said it was "the highlight of his trip to the Hill." The ASCP Legislative Conference is held every year.
