Pacific Athletics to Host Think Pink Week in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness

(October 23, 2009) -

In a continued effort to support breast cancer awareness the Pacific Athletic Department plans to join the national campaign during October with Think Pink Week, which runs from Oct. 25-31. In the tradition of Pacific Plays Pink at women's basketball, the soccer team, field hockey team and women's volleyball team are showing their support at home games during the week.

"Cancer has touched everyone's life at some point, and I think it's a super important event for all women," assistant women's soccer coach Michelle Coleman said.

The Pacific women's soccer team takes on UC Santa Barbara in their final regular season home game on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 12 p.m. to kick off Think Pink Week. All fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink to show their support. Additionally, proceeds from ticket sales for the game will be donated to St. Joseph's Foundation for Breast Cancer Services.

On Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m., the Pacific women's volleyball team takes on UC Riverside and will join hundreds of teams from around the country by participating in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. All fans are highly encouraged to wear pink to make a statement in the stands.

Donations will be accepted during the game for the Side-Out Foundation, which is a 501 c3 Non-Profit charity operating under the brand of Dig Pink. It promotes volleyball events throughout the year to raise money for breast cancer translational research and community support services.

Rounding out Think Pink Week is field hockey as they play host to UC Davis on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to make donations to both the St. Joseph's Foundation or the American Cancer Society at the game and are encouraged to wear pink to show support. The field hockey program will also be honoring the members of the NCAA 1989 team and honoring the memory of Nita Bruner, who lost her battle with cancer in April, 2009.
