Men's Water Polo: No. 14 Pacific Suffers Third MPSF Loss

(October 25, 2009) -

No. 14 Pacific lost to No. 4 UCLA, 11-7. The loss dropped the Tigers to 12-10 (0-3 MPSF) on the season and the Bruins improved to 15-5 (2-2 MPSF) on the year.

UCLA took an early 4-0 lead to open the first quarter. The Tigers were held scoreless most of the quarter until the 2:25 mark when junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) notched Pacific's first goal of the afternoon.

Trailing 5-1 entering the second quarter, sophomore Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) tallied his lone goal of the day to cut the Bruin lead to three.

In the third frame, the Bruins outscored the Tigers 4-2 to take the 9-4 lead. FreshmanGoran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) scored Pacific's two goals of the quarter at the 6:13 and 4:38 spots.

Pacific was unable to find the back of the cage to overcome UCLA's four point lead in the final quarter.

Freshman Tomislav Bujas (Split, Croatia) recorded one save as the starting goalkeeper. Senior David Andrus (Houston, Texas) closed out the contest with five saves in the cage for the Tigers in the three final quarters. Junior Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) led Pacific notching three goals on the day.

Pacific returns to Chris Kjeldsen Pool Sunday, Nov. 1, to take on UC Irvine at 12 p.m. followed by West Valley JC at 2 p.m.
