Sacramento

Sacramento

As the capital of California, Sacramento is a modern metropolitan city, with deep roots in California history, especially as a central trading place for the gold miners of the 1850s.

Often in the shadow of more glamorous Los Angeles or sophisticated San Francisco, Sacramento has maintained a quaint, small-town charm, while hosting one of the most powerful and influential state governments in the United States.

Here are some of our favorite things to do in Sacramento:

Tours, films, and changing exhibits illustrate California history and government. Particularly impressive are the large window displays from each of the counties in the state located on the first floor.

For years, the Sacramento Ballet has drawn in the crowds with its innovative and challenging repertoire of classical and modern dance pieces. And it just wouldn't be Christmas without a performance of the "Nutcracker. "Among recent hot shows is a balletic rendition of Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire."
