Outreach Program
The Outreach Program is designed to encourage the performance, study and understanding of jazz in its many forms, explore contemporary concert music, enlighten and broaden the general knowledge and appreciation of music, and promote the understanding of the work and influence of Dave Brubeck throughout the country and beyond. This is accomplished by performances, educational presentations, and touring displays from The Brubeck Archive presented by the Institute and in partnership with schools, museums, libraries, and other cultural institutions throughout the world.
One of the most exciting contributors to the Outreach Program is the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet. The BIJQ travels extensively to give concerts and clinics in public schools, colleges and universities, libraries and museums, as well as other venues throughout the country. Their programs are designed to acquaint others with the Brubeck legacy, elements of jazz performance and history, and its contribution to life in America. Click on the Brubeck Fellowship Program to learn more about the BIJQ's activities, current schedule, and who to contact for booking.
In the near future, the Outreach Program will be expanded to include publications and travelling displays with material from the Brubeck Archive developed by the Holt-Atherton Special Collections Department of the Library. In addition, the Institute will serve as a repository of ideas and resources for others to use in presentations about Brubeck, jazz, contemporary concert music, and ideas at locations throughout the world, and will also serve in an advisory role to external presenters.
