Feilin Hsiao

Assistant Professor of Music Therapy

Feilin Hsiao is assistant professor of music therapy and joined the Conservatory of Music in 2006.  She received her Ph.D. in music therapy from the University of Iowa, the M.A. in music therapy from New York University, and the B.A. in piano performance from the Chinese Cultural University in Taipei, Taiwan.  Dr. Hsiao is a board certified music therapist, and has teacher credentials in both music education and special education. 

Dr. Hsiao has served as a music therapist in numerous institutions, including the New York Institute for Special Education, the Bronx Psychiatric Center in Bronx, NY, the Long Island College Hospital, Stanley S. Lamm Institute for Child Neurology and Developmental Medicine in Brooklyn, NY, the Early Intervention Center at Taipei City Hospital, Sunshine Rehabilitation Center, and Taipei Municipal School for Special Education in Taiwan.  She also has clinical supervisory experiences in the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit of the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Legacy Gardens Special Memory Care, Pathways Adult Day Care Center, and PAL Program of Youth Homes in Iowa City, IA. 

Dr. Hsiao has lectured at National Taipei University of Education, Taipei Municipal University of Education, and Shih Chien University, and served as a research assistant for the Music Perception Team of the Iowa Cochlear Implant Research Center at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.  She is a past-president of the Music Therapy Association of Taiwan, and a recipient of the T. Anne Cleary International Dissertation Research Fellowship.

In the Conservatory, Dr. Hsiao teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in music therapy.
