Phi Beta Kappa

In 2006, Phi Beta Kappa, a 230-year-old academic honor society founded during the American Revolution, selected Pacific as the site of its newest chapter. Starting in the spring of 2007, the top 10 percent of Pacific’s students will be invited to join the distinguished association.

Membership to the organization is for life. After graduating from college, members can join regional chapters which focus on promoting higher education, in part by sponsoring scholarships for deserving high school, college and graduate students.

The society’s mission is to champion education in the liberal arts and sciences, to recognize academic excellence, and to foster freedom of thought and expression. The organization selects new chapters once every three years. Phi Beta Kappa has over one-half million members at 276 colleges and universities, or about 10 percent of bachelor’s degree-granting institutions in the country.
