How the Judicial Hearing Works
A judicial hearing is a meeting between the student(s) or respondent(s) cited on an Incident Report and a hearing officer or review board.
When you attend a judicial hearing in response to a notification letter, you may plead "responsible," "not responsible," or enter as your official response, "no plea." Entering "no plea" is the equivalent of refusing to comment on your involvement in the incident.
If you are uncertain about whether to enter either a plea of "responsible" or "not responsible," it is recommended that you plead "not responsible." The judicial hearing process will then determine if the you are responsible for the Code violation.
Requesting a Judicial Advisor
Both the hearing officer or review board and respondent(s) may consult with an advisor. The advisor may provide advice and counsel, but during judicial procedures may not speak on behalf of, or otherwise represent the respondent, hearing officer or board.
Current students, faculty, or staff may act as an advisor. Off-campus individuals and those with no affiliation to the University may not act as advisors. Current faculty or staff may not act as advisors to family members who are respondents.
