Stephen (Steve) Wheeler is an Associate Professor of Accounting in the Eberhardt School of Business, University of the Pacific, Stockton, California.
Steve has an undergraduate mathematics degree and MS in Accounting from California State University, Sacramento and a doctorate in Accounting from Arizona State, where he also was an instructor for three years. Before coming to the University of the Pacific in 1994 Steve spent six years at Florida State University and one year at the University of South Carolina. He holds a California CPA certificate since 1979.
Steve has ten years of experience in public accounting with Ernst & Whinney and with his own partnership in Roseville, California. Former clients include First Interstate Bank, California Department of Water Resources, Cal Trans, PDM Steel, Valimet Industries, California Rice Growers Association and Camray Construction. He has authored numerous articles in the areas of accounting and auditing in journals that include: The Accounting Review, The Journal of Accounting Research, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, and Decision Sciences. His work is cited in several auditing texts.
Steve has received two teaching excellence awards and two of KPMG Peat Marwick's Research Opportunities in Auditing grants, and has conducted several professional development seminars for both the Florida and Georgia Societies of CPA's.
The Neven C. Hulsey Chair in Business Excellence was founded in 2002 by a gift from Neven Hulsey, 1957 ESB graduate and former CEO of EMJ, one of the world's largest independently owned distributors of metal products. The Chair is intended to recognize and support an outstanding faculty member from any business discipline.
