Selection Process

Inventors who want their ideas evaluated by the IES should complete a brief new idea proposal, and send it to the Service by the deadline indicated on the form. The IES staff will select several projects to evaluate on the basis of a preliminary review. All people who submit a proposal will be notified as to whether or not their idea has been selected.

Only those ideas that are selected will be evaluated. The process will take approximately two to three months to complete. During this time IES staff will meet with the inventor periodically. The inventor will be provided with the IES funding when the study is completed.

The deadline for having your idea considered in Fall is Sept. 1. Projects are selected by September 8 and reports are presented in mid December. Another round of proposals is considered in the Spring. Proposals are due by Jan. 15; projects will be selected by Jan. 22 and reports will be presented in early May.
