Roberta Gambarini

Roberta Gambarini

Roberta Gambarini was born in Torino, Italy into a family where jazz was loved and appreciated. She began listening to music as a child, and started singing and performing in jazz clubs around Northern Italy while still in her teens. At 18 she moved to Milan to pursue a career as a jazz singer. She has been recording since 1986, both under her name and as a featured singer with Italian musicians. In 1988 she moved to the United States with a scholarship from the New England Conservatory in Boston. Two weeks later Roberta stunned many in the jazz field with a third place finish in the Thelonius Monk International Vocal Jazz Competition. Shortly thereafter, she moved to New York and since has performed with Michael Brecker, Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove, Toots Thielemans, Cedar Walton, Ron Carter, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, Hank Jones, Christian McBride and many others. She has performed at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Town Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and jazz festivals in London, Barbados, Monterey, North Sea, and Toronto. Roberta’s critically acclaimed CD, Easy to Love, on Groovin’ High Records, was nominated for a Grammy in 2007.
