Julia Dollison
The Washington Post calls Julia Dollison “a deeply musical virtuoso with an airy, luminous voice.” Jazz Times Magazine calls here “a rare vocal acrobat and neophyte that defines her generation Y.” Maria Schneider describes her singing as “an absolute joy” and praises her debut CD as “Spectacular!” A classically trained soprano, Dollison sang solos in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms under Michael Tilson Thomas, and played the title role in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. She is also accomplished in studio work. Today, her uniquely personal brand of jazz is delighting audiences in clubs, concerts, and festivals throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Since being named DownBeat’s Best Jazz Vocalist in 2000, she has shared the stage with Jamey Aebersold, Gene Bertoncini, Bob Dorough, Christian McBride, Mark Murphy, Lewis Nash, The New York Voices, Dianne Reeves, Ira Sullivan, Tim Ries, Kenny Wheeler, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, and many others. Julia teaches jazz voice at Sacramento State University, and was previously on the faculty at the New School University in New York, and University of Miami in Florida. Her first CD is entitled Observatory on Like So Music.
