Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet

The Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet (BIJQ) is a component of the Brubeck Institute at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. The members of the BIJQ are fellowship students pursuing careers in jazz performance, and are selected during auditions held annually. The come from throughout the U.S. and Canada. The BIJQ has performed on the Monterey Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, The Brubeck Festival, North Texas Jazz Festival, and many others, and have done concerts in California, New York, Washington, Florida, Toronto, Minnesota, Texas, at the Library of Congress, and most recently on a U.S. State Department tour in Spain. They have performed in jazz clubs such as Yoshi’s in Oakland, Herb Alpert’s club Vibrato in Los Angeles, and the Jamboree Jazz Club in Barcelona. The BIJQ also does clinics and performances in colleges, universities, and schools throughout California and beyond. The members of the 2006-2007 BIJQ are Brian Chahley – trumpet, from Toronto; Glenn Zaleski – piano, from Boylston, MA; Lucas Pino – sax, from Phoenix, AZ; Chris Smith – bass, from Minneapolis, MN; and Cory Cox – drums, from Houston, TX.
