The Orange County Register had a profile on alumna and pharmacist Sophia Change. It's part of the their "Five Minutes With" stories where they interview important people in the community.
The Oregonian had an obit on alumnus Whitney K. Bates.
Jan. 2
The Daily Freeman out of Kingston, NY, had a feature story on television sports broadcaster Charles Davis, a former secondary coach at Pacific.
CBS 10 from Sacramento will be on campus this afternoon to interview professor John Phillips about ways to reduce crime in communities. It should air on this evening's newscast.
Jan. 3
The San Diego Daily Transcript re-ran a column originally published in 2003 that talked about programs for family-owned businesses. The column mentioned that University of the Pacific's Eberhardt School of Business has such a program.
Jan. 4
The Napa Valley Register had an obit on alumna Polly Fellers, 87.
The Davis Enterprise had a story on the deaths of John and Victoria Hanson and their three children. The entire family was killed in Oregon over the weekend when John lost control of the car they were in on an icy stretch of road and hit a semi truck coming the opposite direction. Both John and Victoria were alumni of Pacific.
Jan. 5
The Ukiah Daily Journal had a story about an annual piano festival there this weekend, including a performance from Pacific Alumna Elizabeth MacDougall.
The Vacaville Reporter listed their 10 biggest stories of 2006. At number eight was the decline in the California economy and Real Estate market. Their description of that story included references to Sean Snaith and to Eberhardt's business forecasting reports.

The San Joaquin Business Times picked up the press release on the St. Joseph's - Pacific agreement to work with our health center.
The Record had a story on the St. Joseph's - Pacific agreement to oversee the health center.
Robert Benedetti was quoted in the Record about how diversified candidates have become in the past decade.
The Turlock Journal had a feature story on local jazz musician Justin Blizzard. The story said song's from Blizzard's new album have been played on KUOP.
The Lodi News-Sentinel had a profile on alumna Janice Magdich as part of their "On the Move" feature. She's the deputy city attorney for Lodi.

Psychology professor Gary Howell was quoted in The Record in a story about ways to get kids motivated to do extra curricular activities.
Pat Spreer was quoted in The Modesto Bee about important tips that college students should know about financial aid.
The Davis Enterprise had a feature story on the Memorial service for the Hanson family. All five members were killed in a car crash during the holiday break. Both the husband and wife were Pacific alumni.

The Sacramento Business Journal had a feature on alumna Vicki Barber, superintendent of schools in El Dorado County.
The North Bay Business Journal had a story about the shrinking California economy. It quoted an economic report from Pacific.
The Music Industry News Network, a national news service, picked up Pacific's press release about the upcoming Chen Yi concert. Jan. 9
The San Francisco Chronicle had an obit on alumnus David Malnick, an attorney there. He was 62.
Jan. 10
Pacific student Adreanna Rodriguez was quoted in The Record today about the Stockton School District's vocational training program. She graduated from the technology portion of that program last year before being accepted at Pacific.
The Fremont Argus had a feature story on graduating high school senior Andrew Milcovich, a star water polo player there. He was accepted to Pacific, the story reports.
Jan. 11
The Record had a story about Pacific alumnus and astronaut Jose Hernandez. It was part of a series about efforts to educate immigrants in the Valley.
The Record had a story on the upcoming Ichabod Crane play at Pacific. It's being staged Saturday.
The Record had a story on the "Night at the Opera" production, which is being staged at the Faye Spanos Concert Hall this weekend.
The Record had a story about all the great lecture series that are offered in Stockton. It said that Pacific is one of the most dependable places to go to hear great people speak. It then recapped the recent Walter Cronkite and Garry Wills appearances and promoted the upcoming Aaron McGruder speech.
The Record had a brief on the upcoming CIP college financial aid workshop, being held Saturday.
The Record had a long story on Pierre Ackerman's memorial service held Wednesday. The story focused on the paramedic who tried to save Pierre. She attended the service.
The Lodi News-Sentinel had a feature story on Mike Millerick. It was a question and answer format about his career.
Professor Will Price was quoted in a story by IP Communications about the new iPhone introduced by Apple Monday.
Ines Ruiz-Huston was interviewed by Telemondo, a Spanish-language network, about the upcoming Bilingual Financial Aid Workshop at Pacific on Feb. 3. She said it was a one-on-one interview and will air Jan. 20. She also was contacted by the Spanish-language network Univision to be interviewed for the same subject. That interview will be scheduled in the next two weeks.

The Hollywood Reporter had a feature-profile story on David Gerber, the producer of "Flight 93," the movie about the 9-11 plane that crashed in Pennsylvania. Gerber is a Pacific Alumnus.
The Record had a brief today that said Michael Wurtz will discuss the Dave Brubeck collection during a meetings of the West Side Pioneers in Tracy Wednesday.
The Jewish News Weekly had a news-obit on Bay Area attorney and Pacific Alumnus David Malnick.
The Record had an opinion piece praising its stories about immigrants who struggle to get educated. It repeated an earlier Record story that pointed out that astronaut Jose Hernandez is a Pacific alumnus.
Jan. 13
The Clovis Independent had a column by departing reporter Lisa Houk. She recounted that one of her favorite stories she wrote for that newspaper was of Pacific alumna Shannon Catalano when she tried out for the Olympics in 2000.
The Record had a story about how students from the Conservatory were playing a benefit concert in Lodi to raise money for victims of the war in Uganda.
The LeGrand Observer (in Oregon) had a feature story on alumnus Tim Thompson being appointed District Attorney in Grande Ronde Valley.

The Record had a story about the CIP event on campus Saturday.
The New York Times quoted McGeorge Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker in a story about the Bush administration's stepped up effort to spy on every-day Americans. This time, they are looking at bank accounts, the story said. The story also was published by the San Francisco Chronicle (front page), the Gainesville Sun, the Birmingham News, the Seattle Times, the Columbus Dispatch, the Arkansas Democrat Express, the Chicago Tribune, the Connecticut Day, the San Diego Tribune, CNN, the Tampa Tribune, Fox News, Newsmax, Kiplinger News Service, CNET, the International Herald Tribune (Miami Herald's International edition), Yahoo News and dozens of others. Overall, approximately 65 newspapers and up to 100 news sources ran this story.

The Tri-Valley Herald had a story that said Pacific. UC Merced, Stan State and Delta may team up to create an educational center in Tracy on city-owned land.
The Record had a story that said Pacific is expanding the Center for Professional and Continuing Education, an adult education program.

The Record had a brief about a workshop on career skills being put on by John Carvana at the end of the month.
CNN again repeated the New York Times story that quoted McGeorge Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker.

McGeorge professor John Myers was quoted in both the Sacramento and Modesto Bees today about the death of a woman who was competing in a radio contest for a video game console last week.
Jan. 18
The Sacramento Bee had a story about five baseball players at Pacific being involved in an incident that's under investigation by the Stockton Police Department. The story had several factual errors in it.
McGeorge Professor Ruth Jones was quoted in The Record today on a story about a Calaveras County homicide. A wife is believed to have shot her husband to death last year and was arrested for the crime shortly after he died. But since then, no official charges have been filed against her and she has resumed her normal activities. Jones said there is no statue of limitations on homicide cases so investigators can take their time in securing their case.
University of the Pacific was named in the Times-Picayune as one of the 18 schools that will look at ways to teach ethics to students.
Vida El Valle, a Spanish-language newspaper, had a story about last weekend’s CIP conference.

Professor Joel Hersch was quoted in a front-page story in The Record about the profession of being a sign holder - those people who stand on street corners with signs for cheap pizzas, closeout sales or automobile deals.
Professor Suzanne Walchli was quoted in a Record story today about the impact of Superbowl Ads.
Keith Hatschek was quoted in The Record story today about a new project by Modesto resident and Tower of Power trumpet player Mic Gillette.
The Record had a story about Pacific being selected to look at ways to integrate social responsibility into all college disciplines.
The Record had two stories that gave scores to both the Men's and Women's basketball teams.
The Sacramento Bee had a story about five baseball players being dismissed from Pacific.
The Modesto Bee ran the Sacramento Story but also added in a local interview with one of the players.

Law professor John E.B. Myers was quoted in both the Los Angeles Times and the Ashland Daily Tidings about a proposed law that would make it illegal to spank a child under three years of age in California.
All About Jazz magazine had an article about Dave Brubeck receiving the 2007 Arison Award.
Marc McGee was quoted in the Bergen Record in New Jersey about how high GPA's aren't a guarantee to get into colleges anymore. McGee talked about how many universities are now looking at other achievements that students have.
The Record quoted Sean Snaith about how the unemployment rate has gone up.

Robert Benedetti was quoted in the Modesto Bee about a proposal by former Modesto City Councilwoman Janice Keating that money donated to city political campaigns that comes from donors who don't live in the area has to be publicly reported, regardless of the amount. Keating lost her bid for the seat last year and blamed it on donors from other areas besides Modesto.
Sean Snaith was quoted in the Tri-Valley Herald about the strengthening manufacturing economy in California.

Professor John Phillips will be interviewed live on Capital Public Radio at 2 p.m. today.
Jan. 23
The Record had a story about the five players being dismissed from the baseball team. In it, one of the players said he was attacked and is being unfairly blamed for something he didn't do. He said he's an innocent bystander of circumstances. However, the story also quotes the father of another player and several Pacific students who said the five players were known to have behavior problems.
Law professor Michael Vitiello was interviewed on KCRA 3 about the Supreme Court ruling that tossed out California's sentencing laws.

The Record had a brief about a financial assistance hotline that will be set up Thursday night to give people advice on how to save. One of the people giving advice is McGeorge alumnus Scott G. Beattie.
The San Luis Obispo Tribune had a feature story on Conservatory alumna Victoria Lowrie, who has a music therapy business.

The Record had a centerpiece story in the Lens section about Saturday's Chen Yi concert. Lots of pictures with the story.
Jan. 26
The Record had a photo of Chris Miller demonstrating a rowing machine on campus earlier this week. The caption discussed recruitment for the school's rowing team.
The Record had a feature story on David Gerber in the Lens section.
Sean Snaith was quoted in the San Jose Mercury news on a forecast for steady job growth in the Bay Area. The Fresno Bee and the Tri Valley Herald ran the same story.
The Contra Costa Times and The Record both had a shared story that quoted Sean Snaith talking about job growth in the East Bay.
The Seattle Times had a feature story on Pacific alumnus Richard Leahy. He was named city manager of Woodinville this week.
