College of the Pacific

About the College

Build a Foundation Through Arts, Letters and Sciences

Welcome to the College of the Pacific—the college of arts, letters and sciences, and home to over 18 academic departments.

As the liberal arts college of the University, the College of the Pacific is the oldest and largest academic unit, with more than 150 distinguished faculty members teaching in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the fine and performing arts.

This variety enables students to make the most of the College's small liberal arts learning environment nestled in the heart of a larger, comprehensive university.

“Through the College of the Pacific, you will develop not only practical skills, but more importantly, an ethical imagination, the sort of imagination only a liberal arts education can nourish.”
Cynthia Dobbs, Assistant Dean

For students in the College a liberal arts education is not a mere addition to a professional or graduate education, but rather its foundation.

We believe it deepens students' understanding of difficult issues and transforms them to become self-reflective, knowledgeable and ethical persons.

Our students are able to command a broad perspective in their professional careers, are committed to the welfare of their communities and are well prepared to assume the responsibilities of leadership.
