April 1
The Modesto Bee had two stories about Dave Brubeck in today's paper. The first story was the center-piece package in the Sunday feature section. The second was about a letter Brubeck wrote to a friend explaining his experiences in WWII. There were multiple references to Pacific, The Brubeck Institute and the upcoming Brubeck Festival in the story.
The Monterey Herald had a story quoting the Eberhardt business forecast. It said the economy would slow down, but not enough to be a called a recession.
Michael Malloy, director for global business and development at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, was named by WBRZ TV in New Orleans as a finalist for chancellor position of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU.
Sean Snaith with the business forecasting center was quoted in The Record about the rising number of defaulted mortgages in the Valley.
The Davis Enterprise had a story that said Shady Creek Family Camp was up for sale. Pacific was mentioned in the article because the camp used to host a special discount week for alumni from Pacific.
April 2
KOVR mentioned the Eberhardt Business forecast for a slow-down in the California economy in a morning report.
The Record had a brief reminding people of the upcoming Brubeck Festival.
KPIX CBS out of San Francisco interviewed Dean Chuck Williams this afternoon about the slowdown in the state's economy. The story will air this evening in the Bay Area.
April 3
John Sprankling, a professor at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, was quoted in both the Sacramento and Modesto Bees today about the Supreme Court overturning the Bush administrations rules on carbon emissions. The story ran on the front page in both papers.
The Record had a short story about the upcoming Bully and Harassment symposium at Pacific.
Eberhardt Dean Chuck Williams was quoted by The Record today about the Eberhardt Business Forecasts of a slowing economy in California.
April 4
Luann Bangsund, assistant professor of finance at Eberhardt, was quoted in The Record today in a story about how well local banks are doing this year.
The Record had a story about Pacific student Alicia Schmidt, who was injured in a head-on collision last year. Her injuries have prevented her from returning to school.
The Business forecast from the Eberhardt School of Business was quoted in a story from the Scripps-Howard News Service today.
April 5
The San Jose Mercury News had an interview with Dave Brubeck in this morning's edition. It was presented in a question and answer format. The story also ran with a sidebar on the schedule of events for the Brubeck Festival.
The Record had a feature story about Julia Dollison, one of the featured performers in the opening night show of the Brubeck Festival.
The Sacramento Bee had a brief on Pacific alumnus Matthew Dubendorf, who has been accepted as an officer for the California Highway Patrol.
KPIX interviewed Dean Chuck Williams a second time this week for a story about whether people should buy homes now or wait for prices to drop further.
April 6
The Tennessee Knoxville News-Sentinel ran a story today that quoted the recent Eberhardt business forecast that predicts a slowing economy in California. Dean Chuck Williams was quoted in the story. The quote was taken from a story originally printed in The Modesto Bee, the story says.

April 7
Lynn Beck, dean of the Benerd School of Education, was quoted in a story advising parents how to read STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting Program) scores to determine if their children are at a good school or bad school.
Lawrence C. Levine, a law professor at the University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law, was quoted in the Hanford Sentinel in a story about a civil trail that ended in a $4.6 million judgement against King County.
April 8
The Sacramento Bee had a story about the upcoming Brubeck Festival.
The Record had a story about some of the great music acts that have played in Stockton. It mentioned that The Clash played at Pacific in the early '80s.
The Record quoted Sean Burke, a visiting instructor in religion and classical studies at University of the Pacific, in a story that explained why the Greek Orthodox and Catholic churches often don't recognize Easter as being on the same day. This year they both did land on the same day because of the way their calendars work.
The Tri-Valley Herald ran the San Jose Mercury News' story on Dave Brubeck.
Roy Childs, professor of sociology and director of research for University of the Pacific's Jacoby Center, was quoted in The Record on a story about how different people view wealth.
April 9
The Ventura County Star quoted the Eberhardt School of Business economic forecast that forecast a slowdown in the economy in a story that said "The governor may be running out of economic luck." The Long Beach Press Telegram ran the same story.
April 10
Sondra Roeuny, a University of the Pacific administrator and leader in Stockton's Cambodian community, and Glee Scully, a law professor at McGeorge School of Law, were both quoted in a Record story today about a Cambodian man who has filed for divorce, claiming he was forced into marriage in Cambodia by the Pol Pot regime.
The Megans Down Florida Today had a feature story on Chanel Mosby, a senior at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy in Melbourne. She won a national academic award and said in the story that University of the Pacific was one of her top choices for a university.
The Maylasia Star, the top newspaper in Maylasia, ran Michael Mooney's Modesto Bee story on Dave Brubeck today.
April 11
The Record ran a brief about this Sunday's Miracle Mile Walk for St. Jude's Hospital that's sponsored by Delta Delta Delta.
The Jersey Journal had a short story about the Phi Beta Kappa chapter being established at The College of New Jersey. The story mentioned that Pacific also established a new chapter this year.
April 12
The Record had a story about Chris Brubeck's orchestra piece that will be played this evening and Saturday as part of the Brubeck Festival.
The Record had a story about Sunday's Jazz on the Mile portion of the Brubeck Festival.
Ruth Jones, a professor at McGeorge School of Law, was quoted in the Hanford Sentinel about a criminal prosecution of a Marine who was drunk and drove his car through a house. He's claiming post traumatic stress disorder from the Iraq war caused his actions.
McGeorge professor Lawrence Levine was quoted in the Hanford Sentinel today about what the chances are that a multi-million dollar judgement against Kings County involving an attempted inmate suicide would be reduced.
Bob MacKenzie from KTVU-TV, Channel 2 (Fox affiliate) was at the dental school today filming a story about a special patient (Joey) from Honduras who had life-changing cleft lip and palate surgery during a Rotaplast mission that involved our faculty and residents. The child is visiting the U.S. to receive additional treatment at our Orthodontic Clinic. Bob interviewed Drs. Marie Tolarova, Robert Boyd, Don Poulton and Midori Obara for the segment. The piece is scheduled to air tonight (April 12) during the 10 o'clock news on KTVU-TV, Channel 2.

Pacific Alumnus Alan Lozito was mentioned in The Records' "People on the Move" column. He was promoted to senior vice president and manager of the Pacific State Bank's Hayward branch.
The Record had a story about how author Kent Haruf will speak at Pacific Thursday.
The Record had a brief about how Jeff Sprague, an expert on school violence, will speak at Pacific Wednesday.

In addition, NBC and ABC in Sacramento interviewed Dr. John Sandoval, a psychology professor in Benerd School of Education about the shootings. Dr. Sandoval is a national expert on school violence. The television clips should air at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. ABC also interviewed Dr. Elizabeth Griego for the 11 p.m. news.
April 17
KOVR Television ran a piece this morning showing student and staff reaction to the shooting at Virginia Tech.
Good Day Sacramento ran the story on student and staff reaction to Monday’s shooting.
The Tri-Valley Herald had a column recapping the five days of the Brubeck Festival. The San Jose Mercury News, the Fremont Argus and the Willits News ran the same column.
The Modesto Bee quoted Dr. Don DeRosa in their story about the Virginia Tech shooting and also promoted Dr. Jeff Sprague’s lecture on schoolroom violence, scheduled for Wednesday.
The Record had a story that quoted safety office Mike Belcher and several students about safety at Pacific.

The Record had a feature story on coach Ed Sprague.
The Record had a brief on a movie being shown Sunday at Pacific by the Kilusan Pilipino Club.

April 19
Good Morning Sacramento had a short story about tonight's vigil for the Virginia Tech victims that will be held at Morris Chapel.
The Record had a story on yesterday's noon-time discussion of violence in schools.
The Record had a story about this Saturday's workshop on how to run a music festival, hosted by the student music management club.
Both ABC 10 and Fox 40 covered the student vigil this evening. Both said they would air on their 11 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts respectively.
April 20

The Record had a brief about the trivia night being hosted by Pacific at the Haggin Museum tonight.

The Modesto Bee had a story about the Pacific Crew team fund-raiser and attempt to row 100 miles this weekend.
Chuck Williams, dean of Eberhardt School of Business was quoted on KCPQ Television in Seattle about the falling unemployment rate.

April 22
The San Francisco Chronicle had an editorial about the importance of Earth Day and various projects around the state that take an environmental approach. It focused heavily on Pacific's new Student center and also had a large illustration of what the center will look like when completed.
KGO TV (ABC in the Bay Area) had a story updating the progress of the Pacific Crew team’s trip from The Golden Gate Bridge to Pacific.
The Record had a story on how safety has been a top priority at Pacific for several years now, not just since the Virginia Tech shooting.
The Record had a story about “Shabby Chic” being the new fashion for houses. It specifically talked about many old houses near Pacific that are being renovated to fit this new style.
Chuck Williams, dean of the Eberhardt School of Business, was quoted in The Modesto Bee about the drop in the unemployment rate in the Valley.
April 23
The Record had a review of Sunday’s Earth Day event. It mentioned that Pacific was one of the sponsors.
The Record had a brief that said alumnus Mick Fount has joined the board of the United Cerebral Palsy of San Joaquin.
The Record had an editorial on the recent abortion decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. In it, it mentioned that Justice Kennedy used to teach at McGeorge.
April 24
The Record had a number of stories about different efforts to change student opinions about Stockton:
The lead story started with a student who believes that Stockton is the most crime-ridden place in California and quoted a Pacifican description of Stockton as having "an evil aroma." The story then discussed how there are many programs in place to change those perceptions. The story also repeatedly said that the Stockton campus "may be the safest place in the city."
A second story detailed the downtown alliances efforts to get more students to come into downtown Stockton. It focused on the kiosks in the McCaffrey Center.
A third story focused on the volunteer efforts of students in Stockton and several Pacific programs designed to get students more involved in the community.
The Lodi News-Sentinel had a story about local reaction to the Virginia Tech shooting. It mentioned the vigil held on campus last week and quoted The Rev. Gary Putnam, interim chaplain at Pacific.
The Pharmacy Times had a small feature story on Barbara Sax Ederlyn Lindley Dia, a student at the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She won the RESPy award this month.

The Record had a story about how Chemistry Professor O. David Sparkman and student Teresa Vail recently had a breakthrough in ways to analyze food. Their method could potentially save corporations and the government millions of dollars and save lives by quickly detecting foreign substances in food.

April 26
The Record had an article about the upcoming concert by the rock band Slightly Stoopid. They are playing at Pacific Friday.

The Press Enterprise in Southern California had a brief that said UC Riverside Athletic Director Stan Morrison will give a speech at a church there. The brief mentioned that he previously worked for Pacific.
Mark Plovnick, vice president of economic development, was quoted in The Record in a story about the stock market's record-high close yesterday. Plovnick basically said that people shouldn't read too much into it because most of the market's strength is through Baby Boomer investments into equities, and those equities will be cashed out in the next year or so as the boomers retire.
Channel 10 is doing a piece on Chemistry Professor David Sparkman's recent discovery on how to detect foreign substances in food. It will air at 6 p.m. tonight.
April 27
Bob Benedetti was quoted in The Record today about a plan to split Stockton into maintenance districts so different areas of the city could get different projects.
Keith Hatscheck, chair of the music management department, was quoted in a story about the changing fan base of singer Morrissey. Morrissey is playing in Stockton tonight.
Rob Henderson, director of cyber infrastructure, was quoted in Network World Magazine about why Pacific chose new routers for its network access control.
April 28
Select Science Magazine had an article on Professor O. David Sparkman and graduate student Teresa Vail's new method of testing for foreign substances in food.
The Visalia Times-Delta quoted Ruth Jones, a professor of criminal law at the McGeorge, on the many legal issues that surround child pornography cases. Specifically, she said that the use of undercover officers raises the issue of whether a person was entrapped during an investigation.
The San Francisco Examiner had a feature story on Pacific alumnus Ross Bohard who is starring in a new production of "The Music Man." His association with Pacific was mentioned.
Steve Perdicaris, director of Pacific's music camps, and psychology professor Scott Jensen, were both quoted in a story in The Record about the value of summer camps for children.
The Record had a story on Jose Hernandez joining the Board of Regents.
The Record had a feature story on McGeorge alumnus Greg Aghazarian, who is now running for the California District 5 Senate Seat.

The Central Valley Business Times had a story on a student project to market Toot Sweets Bakery-Café in Stockton. The project is being supervised by Dr. Carol Ann Hackley.
