College of the Pacific
Welcome to the Department of Political Science
Pacific’s Political Science Department prepares students for lives as public leaders and empowered citizens. We are interested in politics from the local school board to the UN Security Council and all levels in between.
We are committed to working closely with students so they develop the knowledge and skills needed to rigorously reach their own conclusions about important issues of politics, government and public affairs. We also offer students opportunities such as internships where they can gain practical experience.

“I wanted a better understanding of how we order our world; all human interaction is political on some level and you can’t fully understand how humans work together without understanding politics.”
—Andrew Basham

Political Science at Pacific
Our Political Science major provides students with the analytical skills and intellectual understanding necessary to answer important questions about politics, government and public affairs. Students also gain practical experience and perspective for pursuing careers in public affairs and lives as empowered citizens.
All Political Science students at Pacific participate in at least one internship, study abroad program or undergraduate research project.
