College of the Pacific
Why choose a Political Science degree at Pacific?
Our goal is for our students to graduate ready to start their careers as public leaders and empowered citizens. This means our students acquire both academic knowledge and skills, and they gain practical experience from encounters with real-life politics and government
Pacific Political Science students:
- Achieve a strong foundation in the study of politics and government by working with a committed faculty who are great teachers and engaged scholars.
- Learn skills they can use in many careers, including research and analytical skills and policy analysis.
- Get real-world experience through internship programs like the Sacramento Experience and the Washington Semester.
Through our partnerships with Pacific's Jacoby Center for Public Service and Civic Leadership, the McGeorge Pacific School of Law and the School of International Studies, we provide students with opportunities that are normally available only at much larger universities.
Most Political Science students at Pacific participate in more than one internship during their undergraduate career.
Washington Semester Program
This program offers students the opportunity to spend a semester at American University in Washington D.C. Students can earn 16 credits toward their degree through a combination of internship, academic and seminar experiences. Learn more at www.washingtonsemester.com.
Sacramento Experience Program
In this program, students serve as interns in government, lobbying or non-profit organizations and attend a weekly Sacramento Public Affairs Seminar which focuses on California state politics and public policy.
Internship Opportunities
The Political Science Department actively connects students with relevant internship opportunities to enrich their education and experience.
